Remind me of early Mountain Goats cassettes. Gripping style of delivery.

Two headed boyAll floating in glassThe sun it has passedNow it's blacker than blackI can hear as you tap on your jarI am listening to hear where you areI am listening to hear where you areTwo headed boyPut on Sunday shoesAnd dance round the room to accordion keysWith the needle that sings in your heartCatching signals that sound in the darkCatching signals that sound in the darkWe will take off our clothesAnd they'll be placing fingers through the notches in your spineAnd when all is breakingEverything that you could keep besideNow your eyes ain't movingNow they just lay there in their climbTwo headed boyWith pulleys and weightsCreating a radio played just for twoIn the parlor with a moon across her faceAnd through the music he sweetly displaysSilver speakers that sparkle all dayMade for his lover who's floating and choking with her hands across her faceAnd in the dark we will take off our clothesAnd they'll be placing fingers through the notches in your spineAnd when all is breakingEverything that you could keep besideNow your eyes ain't movingNow they just lay there in their climbTwo headed boyThere is no reason to grieveThe world that you need is wrapped in gold silver sleevesLeft beneath Christmas trees in the snowAnd I will take you and leave you aloneWatching spirals of white softly flowOver your eyelids and all you didWill wait until the point when you let go

90Z Rock Deept Cut FavzNuetral Milk Hotel with Two-Headed Boy from the critically acclaimed album In The Aeroplane Over The Sea. Released in February 1998 the album did not chart but the album has made many music critics best of album lists including Amazon.Com calling it the second best indie rock album...ever. Not sure I wouldn't have made it # 1.

I have just "discovered" Neutral Milk Hotel. I do not know how I missed them when they first came out, but I have say I definitely side with the crowd that believes that this is a truly inspired album. I hear so many musical influences, none of which overwhelm the originality of the music. The funky orchestrations are just great. In general, I prefer well-produced, polished albums, but the raw emotion energy of this album is nearly overwhelming. More production would have diminished what is a gem of musical expression. There are three songs in particular that Two-headed Boy reminds me of. One, on a cursory level, is "Helplessness Blues" by Fleet Foxes. While I love that song (which sounds like Simon and Garfunkel met CSNY in 1967...), the manic energy of this song just blows it away.Another, on a vocal level (with the breaking voice), is "Rain King" by Counting Crows, which came out 6 years before this did. It too has that the same emotion tenor, but it is far more slickly produced song. Again, this song just doesn't have the passionate energy of Two-headed Boy.There is one song that just strikes me as an emotional brother to this, one that is much older, from another generation, but shares an nearly overwhelming emotion drive of wide-eyed youth, emotional passion, and restless energy: Thunder Road by Bruce Springsteen. While one of the most (overly) produced albums (EVER), the desperate energy of that song is the same human passion expressed in this one. From 1974 in NJ to 1998 in NY (or Athens, or Rustin, LA) to my ears in 2015, a common human connection of emotional energy runs through these songs, shocking in their ability to make you feel what THEY feel. I would find it difficult to give higher praise that.I look forward to seeing their show when they get close to this area in the next couple of months. I do not intend to miss these guys this time around.- B -

This album is so melancholy and hopeless sounding at certain points. Then it lifts you up like skinny fists.
