I don't think I've ever seen anyone call him an 'exceptional' vocalist.

@GermCell123 What a load of garbage... As much as I love Hellenic Black Metal, they cannot touch the masterpiece that is DEATH's Scream Bloody Gore!

@ransan7833 Yes, unfortunately. But it has been re-released a few times over the years, so there's a chance it'll happen again. That said, I wouldn't count on tracking down the original (with one album cover) for cheap, or at all.

What exactly do you mean "elevated" to jazz? Jazz sucks, and it is only legitimized because a bunch of baby-boomer college professors have liberal white guilt and need to compare the wah wah clickity boom tsh of every jazz song to the brilliance of Bach and other true musical geniuses. If you prefer jazz, fine, but don't pretend that you are in some way "elevated" in your musical tastes because of it.

I'm not sure what "level" you're referring to, but if it's a pure likeness to jazz then I'd suggest Atheist and Cynic's '91 demo: the material is a much closer match and better executed on the whole. For musicianship, see my previous comments: Chuck attracted top-notch performers for about ten years, but usually reverted to the boring structures of the hard rock style he was apparently after. Nothing personal against Death, but I think some fans have overrated this band in the worst way.

I think Schuldiner, with the last two Death albums, has elevated metal music to a level near to jazz. Of course I understand that this seems worthless to those not interested in jazz or classical music at all. I'm looking at this from a different point of view. I really don't listen to much metal music nowadays, and still, Necromantia and Death are stuff that I still love to hear, although now I prefer things like the music of Kaltenecker Trio, or other jazz fusion, and experimental jazz pieces.

Chuck Schuldiner - while an exceptional vocalist - was more or less trapped in boring rock 'n roll song structures and tended to either ride on the coattails of his supporting cast or retread paths already explored. Not sure where you're going with this. The early works of Rotting Christ and Varathron are definitely worth checking out for output that is similar and/or complementary to the quality and concept of Necromantia.
