yeah he was able to play and sing this shit at the same time. He's one of those genius level musicians who tied into the scene with John Mclaughlin, and Carlos Santana during their time as devotees of the Sri Chimoy. That was before his R&B days. Look for the first Mahavishnu album with him on it and you hear him at his drumming finest. His most powerful drum solo after that was "The Dance of Life"
