Most exciting drummer ever, in my ear - and you can hear the funk in this solo, I can tell that this is a soul band chitlin circuit player, however much Buddy Rich and Chico Hamilton and deJohnette he has down - and that's plenty. Then of course if you want consistent long-form pulse on the drums, or an ear-worm dance track bed, here's your guy. I am surprised the views aren't more numerous, and the comments not more freaked out

Good drummer, but no Billy Cobham. Most of what he is playing are double strokes, and, yes, he is ripping those out, but his snare is cranked so tight that it sounds more impressive. Search for his more recent drum instruction video on youtube. You will notice his playing sounds much more pedestrian, in part due to the fact that his DW kit is tuned low and sloppy. Again, I am not knocking Michael. His playing here is great. But Billy Cobham he is not. There is a reason why Cobham is a legend.
