The Holy City (Jerusalem) - music by Stephen Adams, lyrics by Frederick E. Weatherly, sung by the Three Tenors, showing photos of the Mount of Olives in Jerusalem and some of the Churches found on it. Photos by Miki Pitish taken from a Power Point presentation.

The song is recorded in the African Methodist Episcopal Church Review in 1911 as having been sung by an opera singer awaiting trial for fraud in his cell while a group of men arrested for drunk and disorderly conduct were before the judge. The men were said to have dropped to the knees as the song began 'Last night I lay a-sleeping, There came a dream so fair.', the lyrics contrasting with their previous night's drunkenness. The song's conclusion resulted in the judge dismissing the men without punishment, each having learned a lesson from the song.

1 Kings 11:32 But he will have one tribe, for the sake of My servant David and for the sake of Jerusalem, the city which I have chosen from all the tribes of Israel.Matthew 16:21 From that time Jesus began to show his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things from the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and on the third day be raised.Zechariah 14:4 And his feet shall stand in that day upon the mount of Olives, which is before Jerusalem on the east, and the mount of Olives shall cleave in the midst thereof toward the east and toward the west, and there shall be a very great valley; and half of the mountain shall remove toward the north, and half of it toward the south.

Awesome. The Mount of Olives, where my LORD was taken and arrested, where he ascended to My Father GOD and sat down at his right hand as our High Priest who maketh intercession for his Saints. And, according to my Gospel Accounts in The Books of Acts, and Zechariah, the LORD GOD Jesus Christ himself will indeed land on the Mount of Olives when he returns to establish his Kingdom, In Jerusalem. AMEN.

Would the poster ever correct the title to The Irish Tenors. These are not the Three Tenors (Pavarotti, Domingo, Carreras). The Irish tenors were JohnMcDermott, Anthony Kearns and Ronan Tynan and others too. But there is a big difference between the "Three Tenors" and the "Irish Tenors". So correct you title then.

As the bus jostled gently down the road, someone began playing this song over the P.A. system. We looked out the windows and there before our eyes was the city - Jerusalem! I can never here this song without remembering that special moment.

Chrissy, this is one of my favorite songs for Palm Sunday through Easter, I'll always love our sharing the hymnal at your mother's memorial. Always know how much I loved her. And how much I cherish you. Please let me know if you are in Duluth how we can meet. I'm up for it....Love always, Nana

This is the hymn that celebrates the Palm Sunday and also Easter: both of which are party to the ultimate story of Christ and His message.

This takes me back about 25 years to when my dad sang this song at our Christmas service on year. I still have the sheet music with all the notes as scribbles of how we practiced. What a memory!! Thanks and God Bless you for this lovely inspiring piece. My dad has passed on but this will live in heart forever.
