I think all the booze and drugs have taken their toll on Murray. His eyes are fixed on the teleprompter. You can see him reading. He is singing too fast. He was excellent in 1970, though.

I've seen a number of "Judas's" on clips....and Murray Head is the only one that sounds "right" to me....something about his voice...rough and gritty (on the original album) fit the character best. The only other performer I can accept is Carl Anderson.....but...Murray Head is Judas (in my opinion).

Great voice, but like in everything, they've over-produced the music so much that it's lost its freewheeling rock-n-roll swing.On the album the horns punched, the strings had swing and "that bass, oh that driving bass line," it roiled and rolled the song along like a deep rolling sonic thunderstorm. It was a perfect anchor for Heads ragged jagged soulful rasp.The drama was derived from the ferociousness of the singing & playing, not from the sheer amount of instruments and voices. ((( I sound like my grand dad, but the old version was better. )))

Ah, makes my whole soul sing!I've heard God knows how many versions of JCS -- some better than others.But I'm yet to hear a Jesus as inspired as Gillan'sAnd there's no Judas as moving as Murray's (who, btw, doesn't get nearly enough credit for his amazing performance).
