Bad Company was definatly a great band ,but Free had a lot more heart ,Free was motivated by the times and the music ,Bad Company was motivated by the cash,Mick had more luck with that attitude the his other bandmates from Mott The Hoople,It becomes a curse ,always looking for a hit rather than playing from the heart ,the greats know that, thats why we can still appreciate giants like Ian Hunter ,or Neil Young ,we sense their integrity and it hits a chord in us.thats y Ian had to go solo...

I don't think Mick was seeking to be a considered a blues guitarest like say Clapton ,or Mick Taylor ,I think he was just looking for more room to shine as a writer, after all Ian ,to many, was Mott at the time, and it seemed to me after a few great records with BC ,Mick ran dry ,whereas Ian Hunters writing skills have yet to falter ,and he don't write just Pop music . At 73 yrs he can still come up with an artistic gem like Man Overboard ,if you haven't bought it yet ,your cheating yourself

I'm not to sure of that,I thinkMick just couldnt pass up the chance to hook up with Paul Rogers ,a great singer ,but not really a instrumentalest, type so he could begin to have less competition in the writing dept ,its obvious that Paul was taken by his writing ,and wasn't just looking for a hired gun or he would have changed the arrangments more drastically on Ready for Love .Bad company was the flavor of the day back then ,and gave us some great music , but Free was much more blues orientated
