A brilliant orchestral piece composed by Soviet futurist Alexander Mosolov in 1926-27, from the ballet suite "Stal" (Steel). This is a 1933 recording with legendary conductor Victor de Sabata and the Italian Broadcasting Authority orchestra in Turin.

The painting is "The Steel Mill" by Adolf Menzel.

I heard this at a 1960 "children's concert" by the San Francisco Symphony - I was very impressed! (Surprised it didn't make it into any of the Fantasia animations.)

The most unbelievable thing is that Mossolov used usual orchestra (except the iron sheet). No Wagner tubas, no quadruple orchestra like Scryabin.

That is my favourite painting of german impressionism, and the music of Mosolov fits very well to it.

thx for loading, ain´t this more satanic than "omen" or "exorcist" soundtrack? could mean, that industries (cos this one was written in the dust of russia´s industrial revolution in the 1920´s) are nowadays evil influences...?!
