This song reminds me of this guy I used to like and his horrible mother. She still is horrible! Some things never change...

Opening for a brief moment sounds like "The Sounds of Silence", and then for another brief moment sounds like "Pinball Wizard".

The whole song is a style parody of the songs that George Harrison was doing at the time, right down to the sitar-like banjo line. You can hear "If I Needed Someone" and "I Want To Tell You" in it. It is a rare talent who can do so close a parody of someone's style while still being completely original. And in case any Beatles fans are reading: Yes, they did it too. "Back in the USSR" is a parody of surf bands like The Beach Boys and "Helter Skelter" is a parody of The Who.

I sense with all the news about this latest tour with Nez and last years great tour with Davy that The Monkees are finally going to get the respect they deserve. So it seems everyone is finally figuring out what us fans have know for years...one of the best pop bands of all time.

The Rodney Dangerfields of rock.Smirk all you want, you heathens, but the Monkees and their producers created some fantastic pop tunes. Ain't nothing happening here on this song that would be out of place on Little Steven's Sirius radio station (underground garage).

I just had to get this record back in the 60's. I am not sure my parents understood. It was the feeling of the music that got me.

The opening count off is inspired by Taxman on Revolver, and I suspect the bass part of this song is too.

This could be a Lennon/McCartney tune. Can't believe I never heard this until now. I watched The Monkees without fail and even caught the re-runs. Thanks for sharing this great tune!!

Ah got it ~ three word title, both containing the third and first person and a four letter verb in the middle ~ clever.

Oh course, any similarity to "I need You" by you know who, is coincidental, (or was this an intentional parody?). Still very sad about Davy tho', the Monkees brought out some outstanding (and original) records and I have some which I still play.
