I can understand, exactly why our entry did not catch on at Eurovision, and it has little to do with Molly or the song itself. For a start Cinematography, the Visual presentation is paramount at Eurovision, and above all you have to tell a story, both aurally and visually. This is something RTE clearly have not picked up on. At Eurosong in February a lot of the discussion during the show was centered around "Finding the right song" when the song nowadays counts for less at ESC. A Piano ballad might have won in 94' but it just doesn't cut it in the modern day.If you observe the performance above, there is a huge problem from the offset; Molly is almost entirely obscured by a piano. She cannot sell herself to the camera in such a position. For us watching, it's like she's hiding herself, failing to make the all important personal connection with the viewer. It also felt like the same camera-angles were being recycled here, and even when they were used, they did not enhance the performance. Many ESC performances will utilise Vertigo, Crash Zoom, and Close-Up Rotation shots to elicit emotion and create visual intensity building towards the song's crescendo for us at home.Another element that wasn't capitalised on was the Backdrop. Trees swaying from side to side for three minutes; What a wasted opportunity. I say this primarily because for the first time in years we sent a song rich in Themes. Molly through her song, told us these Themes but we were not shown them in any way on stage. At ESC the song often acts as a soundtrack to what we see and feel on television. It's like watching one of Shakespeare's finest plays, Othello, being staged by a second-rate production team who have clearly miscast the character roles. You will think afterwards, "hmm, that's nice I like his plays, but is Iago the true villain?, and What motivates him?" a strong Production team would make it crystal clear where his priorities lie based on who fulfills his role, their mannerisms, imagery behind him on stage, specific lighting on him etc.In other words, we could have sent a stellar song, but without thematic imagery thanks to the production team, we still wouldn't have gotten out of the Semi-Final. For this reason also, I mandate that Sweden would not have won this year without the effective entrancing use of Projection Mapping for "Heroes". This helped to visually portray a narrative of Perseverance and strength of Character; being "Role Models" as Mans put it himself.Estonia this year gave an excellent example of visual storytelling too; Cut the volume and you will still manage to see what Stig and Elina are singing about.Portugal in 2010 with Filipa Azevedo, put forward a dated but pleasant enough piano ballad, and for me, this entry endowed great Camera-Work with some inch perfect angles and close ups.To conclude, I believe our recent shortfalls in staging are rooted with the Late Late Show format. How is any artist supposed to tell a visual, thematic story to really grab the viewer's attention, on such a dinky little stage with no room for expansive LED screens?. It has totally deceived us. Nobody would have voted for Kasey at Eurosong last year if they had known the amplified stage performance was going to look as horrendous and cheap as it did in Copenhagen, same goes for Ryan Dolan's entry. If I were in Charge of our entry I would pull Ireland out of the contest for say, two years, and circle the date on the calendar and declare ,"I'm going to find Ireland a Winner for 2018". I would take the time to assemble a competent production team together, evaluate the Contest trends (Visual and Aural) over the next two years and then make a move. Our entries needs Professional backing, like in most Nordic countries, which sadly we do not currently have.

The main reason this act did not get through is because she is not a great singer, the song is boring and she is sitting at an absolutely horrible looking piano of which she is not even playing. Additionally this girl has never played or performed in front of large audiences. She has zero stage presence. All the acts that made it through to final all had stage presence and are well used to performing live. You cannot learn this in one live performance. This girl is a nobody and will remain a nobody. No one will remember her in less than 3 months. Actually she is already been forgotten.Who's fault is this? Ireland's fault and the way they choose their eurovision entry. Take a look at who the judges are....its laughable.

Last year when I created my top 10 and therefore awarded my "points" I was able to limit myself entirely to the finalists, as all my favorite songs had made it through (including Montenegro, Slovenia, The Netherlands and a few others). Although, that is not to say that there weren't many songs I also liked that didn't qualify. This year it's a bit different, however; for I really feel that Molly Sterling's "Playing with Numbers" deserves the 12 points as a song, even if the live performance wasn't entirely the best.

Regardless of whether it went through or not, I'm so proud of the route my country went down with the Eurovision song this year. We didn't do like other years and go for a euro trashy song that we thought would impress Europe. Our song was classy and musical.

One of my favourite songs of the night, beautiful song, but I think her tone was a bit off, emotional: yes, but I think she sang some parts a bit too low. Nevertheless, still one of the best songs of the contest.

I only watched the second semi-finals. This song was my favourite, when it didn´t pass the semi-finals I knew I wouldn´t have to watch the rest of the ESC. Best greetings from Austria!

Cyprus should not have qualified over this. However compared to Latvia, Italy this is bad. It is a grand song but not good enough for grand final. COME BACK STRONG IRELAND X
