It is and will always be Electro. The thing they called "Detroit Techno" in 1988 was nothing else than a copy of Chicago House. Until 1986, Cybotron/Model 500 produced Electro music. In 1985, one year earlier, Chip E and Knight Action from Chicago had already produced proto-"Detroit" Techno and Acid House tunes.
