Moby Grape was formed in 1966, and was one of the San Francisco groups from the late Sixties. The name supposedly came from the joke "what's big and purple and lives in the ocean".

This song has been in my head for a few days now and I have been singing it. With all the awful things going on right now, it is a testament ...order, talent, and such a perfect song exists. Ah. So I am listening late at night, I mustn't be too sad.

LOVE this song. I still have my vinyl of album, tho it is worse for the wear & the years. Saw them live several times way back when. The history of MG & reason(s) for their failure is an interesting/sad story, especially Skip Spence's story.

It's in my memory, too...this one and the opening crashes of "Omaha", played at max volume....the 'rents didn't care for it much, though. :)

You're welcome. I'm glad to hear someone else loved them like I did. :-)

For so many years I felt like I was the Only one who remembered them or even heard of them! One of my all time fav tunes! During the good 'ole Napster days, I downloaded live studio version, someone screwed up the beginning and you hear, "Oh fuck!" , then they restarted, was Wonderful! That hard drive crashed and I have been searching for that version ever since! Thanks! :)

Peter, I understand, has gotten out with a musical partner, in recent years. The first album, and several cuts off of Wow still rank as some of the most magical music of that era (or any other). My duo partner and I are adding this tune to our early set. It's really important that music this fine lives on in live venues... ;-)

It's good to know this song, and Moby Grape, means so much to others as much as to me. :-)

I have been playing Grape Music for over 45 years! We go way back....a couple of my friends and I had the privilege of celebrating their growth and success. Each and every member, Jerry, Don, Peter, Skip and Bob are all ledgends and will always have a space in my memory and heart. Missed them terribly during my married years when I was out of the music scene and raising a daughter. Loved seeing all of them in San Rafael one summer when they did a summer series. Thank you for the memories.
