My buddy told me the holiday season that both of the albums based on this series were available he couldn't keep them in his record store. Seems the parents of the 80s had no problem with this entertainment. I'll admit that, being a childless man in my mid 20s when these hit, I found it a little strange that parents would buy them, but then again, I wasn't the target consumer.

the problem with the world today is the way we think. People raised in this era are a lot more respectful people then those raised in this generation. I was raised watching these mini pops and they helped me to become a lot more secure with myself. The world needs more shows like this for children, its better then shows like teen mom, dance moms & toddlers & tiaras from this era.

None of us thought of the Mini Pops at the time as provocatively dressed or singing age inappropriate lyrics. Here in Canada,we only knew of them through the records that K-Tel & later Quality released from 1982-1989.

I love the Grease soundtrack, but there is something off-putting about a 5-year-old saying she "needs a man." Surely there are other innocuous pop songs they could have picked?

the show sat uneasily with some adults, capped by a performance from five-year-old Joanna Fisher who covered the Sheena Easton song "9 to 5" (known as "Morning Train" in the States) in nightclothes and included the lyrics "night time is the right time, we make love".

Though the series was a success for Channel 4, gaining two million viewers, little thought had been taken on the ethics of child performers, singing songs originally written for older artists and dressing and dancing in a provocative style often influenced by the original performance. Whilst embraced by children who loved the idea of ordinary children singing and dancing as they did along with their favourite songs,

@archdale5 Personally I would not encourage any child to sexualise itself for the sake of cheap entertainment...no matter how well adjusted they grew up to be. This is not talent...I've seen chimps and dolphins with more talent than this.

@BlondLittleAngels This show was aired in England, not America. Apparently some people over there are just as "narrow-minded" as Americans.
