To Mr. Ian Maiden. John Playford's 11th edition of +The Dancing Master"? I have been trying to trace this somewhat sporadically for years. If you are right and I am sure you are then I really owe you one. Let me know what kind of swishy rabbit you want me to draw for you, Ha Ha!

I heard this twenty years ago and could only think of my sailboat crossing the finish line first with this blaring over loudspeakers! I had no idea of the nautical connection. I guess it just sounds, well, British! (and that means Navy)! Rule Brittania!

When I was nine this song drove me up the wall trying to put a name to it.Everytime I heard it I either stopped or danced to it, regardless of where I was.

This tune originally appeared in the 11th edition of John Playford's "The Dancing Master" in 1701. For other great tunes, look for the Pompey Pluckers.
