Another great Mickey Newbury tune from the album After All These Years.

Mickey Newbury, in my opinion was one of the greatest song writers of our time.

There also were some great musicians that played on this album:

Steve Brantley -- vocals

Bruce Dees -- vocals

Gene Eichelberger -- engineer

Steve Gibson -- guitar

Jon Goin -- guitar

David Hungate -- bass

Shane Keister -- piano

Sheldon Kurland -- strings

Dave Loggins -- guitar, vocals

Mike Manna -- piano

Terry McMillan -- harmonica

Weldon Myrick -- steel guitar

Mickey Newbury -- guitar, vocals

Bobby Ogdin -- piano

Norbert Putnam -- guitar

Cindy Reynolds -- harp

Buddy Spicher -- fiddle

James Stroud -- drums

Jack Williams -- bass

not only is the writing and the singing absolutely brilliant but it also has the very moving twin fiddle piece at the end. This is Mickey Newberry as his very best.

One of those rare songs that I can listen to several times over and still be mesmerized by its soulful depth and beauty. I love the complex array of sounds that compliment the whole flow of the song. Does anyone know if Mickey himself was the one who had the ability to arrange the instruments so beautifully? Thanks for posting this. It brings me back in time driving semi across Tennessee in the 80's and listening to this tune on cassette.

It's amazing how many fellow Texans are great songwriters. Unfortunately I do not fall into that catergory LOL!!

Back in '72or '73 Mickey didn't play much in public. But he did play one night at Nashville's Exit Inn. Dottie West came onstage and sang this song. Her gorgeous voice on such a special night lives on in my memory. Mickey remains the master of 'beautiful sadness'.
