Beethoven's music is not so slow and relaxed. This (especially by Celibidache) is a Beethoven read in brucknerian or mahlerian way: this is my opinion.

There actually was an "orchestre symphonique de Paris" in the 20ies, I think it was founded by Pierre Monteux, they made a great recording of Berlioz's symphonie fantastique, but it was disbanded before the war..

Thanks for the info Dan. I have a CD that states Orchestre Symphonique de Paris... I know that such an orchestra never existed so was always wondering which one it was...

the orchestra is the "orchestre national de France", not the orchestre de Paris. This is available on a music and arts cd
