@onearmguitarist84 wow, thanks so much for saying that -- I forgot that this was a Bailes Brothers tune! I have long admired their work and also recorded “Come To The Saviour Today” a few years back. Beautiful stuff. I appreciate that you think Walter woulda dug this. We were goofing off on the song since we were in a backyard singing for a barbecue, but when we recorded the song on an album we did it with a little more conviction. It’s hard to be ‘reverent’ playing for family bbq’s - :)

@kc7fys And dont give us this crap about them being Christians because I know Christians and they wouldnt introduce a song they supposedly revered as hokey and lame. Let them stick to One Toke Over The Line.........maaaannnnnnnnn.

@kc7fys Wow Mannnnn, like Lighten up Mannnn.... Your sound like a broken record Asking me to "lighten up" twice in the same message. The bottom line is this.... Im not a Christian, or real religious, BUT Mike and Terry went out of their way to say the lyrics were , lets see, how did we put it? Oh yeah, kind of lame And oh yeah...Kind of What was the word he used? Kind of Hokey. Called the song "controversial. So dont do the song if you feel its offending your Liberal Sensitivities. .

@toez2001 Wow. Lighten up. These guys are doing fairly well. They like the song, and are paying tribute to it. You just gotta lighten up there.

5:21 to 5:30 -- Terry thinks he's Marty McFly-- "I guess you guys aren't ready for that yet...but your kids are gonna love it."

you're being silly. if god didn't want people to laugh, or to be guided toward god by lifestyle evangelism, then he wouldn't have created humor. what? you don't laugh. or do you only laugh at secular humor??

i can't believe how so many ppl are getting offeneded at this! i know mike myself and he is not one to "make fun of christianity" ...they're just goofing around for goodness sake. personally i think it's hilarious and some ppl need to lighten up ...i mean c'mon guys its not like "thou shalt not have fun" is not one of the 10 commandments...:D

Worshipping the Lord is something to be done in reverence. This is comedy hour in religious disguise. Sorry guys, but the truth sometimes hurts. REPENT.

Haa ha - haalarious! Really enjoyed watching this for the first time. There's a clip round here of Mike playing in '94 - wearing a T-shirt saying: I know Brian. (I guess a reference to Monty Python's 'The Life of...'?) He has a whole album named after the song called 'Pray Naked'. He's played shirtless at Christian music fests. He feigns being from the Rolling Stones to Christian VJs. It's his pseudo rebellious nature. It's contextual, like all humour ie. You've got to know (him) to understand.

This is what I was going to say. You kind of have to know who these guys are to get the lighthearted fun they're having. They're not making fun of the song as much as they're just having fun. They very much are Christians, and have very spiritual sides to their music. I think they're just having fun with words like "o'er", and like being silly. It's what they do when they're on stage. Take a look around for other Lost Dogs or Daniel Amos material.

Thanks for posting 77BC... Toez - if you knew Mike and Terry, you may better appreciate their brand of humor. They riff off of each other and have a good time. Though this song doesn't showcase it, Terry Taylor is one of the greatest living Christian songwriters and Mike Roe is one of the best as well. Mike is certainly one of the best guitarists around. These guys are good people who love the Lord - this song showcases the type of banter they can have during some of their shows. Jim

The "discussion" at the beginning of the song was setting up the goofing around guitar solo and the trip through the 77's "Mercy Mercy." The "show" was a backyard party. It was intended to be FUN. Take a few steps back, take a deep breath and step off your soapbox.

hey look, Im not a big bible thumper, the bottom line is its become real fashionable and hip to make fun of christianity, if the lyrics are LAME then dont sing the song. Makes you look like a hypocrite. Also I checked out the end of their video. What exactly are they, the Abbot and Costello of country?

Yeah, right, no offence, but you're obviously the PR Guy for these two. Let me quote Terry Taylor, if hes the one on the right... I read the words to the song and they're kind of lame. He also goes on to say the words are "kind of hokey". Oh yeah, a couple of spiritual jackasses just riding thru the desert plains of life...with a message for all teens. Oh, teens, read your lame ass bible.
