Did anyone know that Michael is from Oak Cliff TX (South Dallas) and toured with the Beatles as a sound man on their first American Tour in 63?

To all of you lucky enough to live in Austin as I did in the 70's, we were one lucky group folks. THOSE WERE THE DAYS !

I use to live in Austin Texas back in the early 70's. Anyways, a friend of mine said I ought to check out this player, Michael Murphy at the Armadillo Headquarters. So I went and saw him as was totally blown away. Now, this is before he started calling himself Michael Martin Murphy, he was just a rock/folk guy then. As he played that night he did just an acoustic set for a while that was almost an hour and a half long. I can without hesitation, that Mr. Murphy was was without a doubt, the best single player I've ever seen. Better than James Taylor that night. I was, and everyone there, totally taken in. What you see on the video above is just a small example. Imagine an hour and a half of this music. Beautiful!

I've heard some Christian music artists "riff" off this guy's style. Hey, good is good!

I haven't heard a version of this song I didn't like. First heard it from Mike Nesmith.

@MajorHoolihan I thank you for your service, and a good ear for music. That must have been good times mixed with bad times. I hope all is well. (And, may I ask what branch?) I'm betting on Navy or Marines. Dad was in the Army , so take no offense if my guess is wrong. I do love this song and got to eat with him and B. W. Stevenson a long time ago in a small restaurant in Dallas.

@catndryer "Texas Morning" was written by Michael Murphey & Boomer Castleman.

There seems to be some confusion as to who wrote this song....and we need to get to the bottom of that and give credit where credit is due. But.......This version by MMM......is absolutely incredible. Buckwheats version takes me right out there on I-10 somewhere between Sonora and El Paso....with nothing but jackrabbits and tumbleweeds.......

I saw Michael at SMU in the early 70's . The Texas Trilogy.Fromholtz, Willis Allen and Michael. They played for most of the night!! I really liked Michael during this time. Lately he doesn't do much for me.

MMM is one helluva singer. Went to a concert he did at the Austin Municiple Auditorium around 1973. They had a power problem....and he just sat on the edge of the stage and played and sang without ampliphication for nearly an hour. Thanks for the good times Michael.
