pepper would never fit in this corporate band. dont get me wrong, i grew up with metallica, i was a teenager when they became so huge, i love that band very much and personally means a lot to me. but pepper is a real guy, only after you know what kind of person he is, you can see how guys from metallica are fake, and changed by fame and money and all that shit. pep is a guy who owns an old bar in new orleans, a guy who LOVES music, and thats why he plays it. a guy who goes fishin with jimmy bower, who likes hanging out with his friends and relaxing and enjoying life in a normal every-day-man way... i dont know if anybody is getting what im talking about, but i hope so at least...p.s. and yes, as guy below said, down and coc are way better and more personal and soulful bands than metallica for me too. pepper would never could express himself in metallica, never would be free as nola guys are used to...

So glad Pepper did NOT join Metallica. Much happier that he stayed with Down and now is back with CoC (for a bit, at least). Joining Metallica in 2003 would have been a major downgrade and waste of Pepper's talent.

Pepper is definitely NOT the right fit for Metallica, he's too gritty. Metallica's like the pretty boys of metal nowadays, I don't know why Pepper even contemplated wasting his time. He's a real musician, in my eyes, that's in it for the music and his fans, not the money or stupid electronic music video concerts. Fuck you, late Metallica.

Maybe Metallica would not have died on its ass if they had hired Pepper. he could vocally hold up hetfield. You can hear Hetfield was so inspired by CoC - Deliverance that that is kind of what Load and Reload was going for. They just don't sound Metal these days so why try write metal shit?
