People always credit "Home Sweet Home" as the first power ballad, which was released in 1985.Fade to Black was put out in 1984, and based on song structure and the acoustic guitar, it quite possibly might actually be the first true power ballad.Granted it's about a rather macabre subject, but that's fitting for a band called METALLICA, don't you think?
