hetfield is metallica. everyone brought a unique aspect, but the metallica sound at heart is hetfield. justice was made without cliff and that was just as good as RTL or MOP. black album, was just as good if not better. name any other band with that has like 7-8 classic albums in their discography. none. their teenage angst was spent building metallica and then they made a living beyond music. you should be happy for them

And my previous comments wasn't so much about Cliff but mostly about James presence. He's the one to thank when you talk about Metallica's attitude. Too bad, now he's not the same old motherfucker he used to be (which can be translated into "he doesn't drink anymore"). Anyway, I'm happy for him, a true gentleman.

I've worshipped Metallica maybe for as long as you have lived. I've also been where you are, putting Cliff in a pedestal. Truth is he was just a human being and a good bass player but faaaaaaaaaaaaar from being even one of the best. He was a charismatic person, with talent and suffered a tragic death. Those are all the elements needed to put someone in a godlike perspective, but if you are intelligent enough to see beyond that and analise it imparcially, you'll see he was just a regular person.

@postigaceltic finally found someone who says that Cliff wasn't Metallica, all feelings was definately from James. You can see on interviews with James and Cliff, James was more raw than Cliff, I'm sorry again but Cliff was looking kind arrogant on an old interview from mid 80's

@toad1971 Its kind of stupid, because in this video you dont see anything really standing out from Cliff. But... LOOK AT JAMES! That's attitude, man. You confusing James attitude with all Metallica's attitude. The other guys play as they did, more or less. The attitude oj James is what you see in the first place, is he's angry, Metallica look angry. If he's mellow like now, Metallica look mellow.

Totally wrong. Metallica is James. All the other members in Metallica haven't changed as much as James. His change of attitude in stage is what makes people think "Metallica" has changed. He used to be a drunk motherfucker, he banged his head, he screamed, and he even insulted fans, now he doesn't do ant of that, he's all mellow. The fact that he is the face of the band, makes people confuse his change with Metallica change. Metallica is the same (the other members) James isn't.
