Lyrics:

All Nightmare Long

Luck. Runs. Out.

Crawl from the wreckage one more time

Horrific memory twists the mind

Dark, rugged, cold and hard to turn

Path of destruction, feel it burn

Still life

Incarnation

Still life

Infamy

Hallucination

Heresy

Still you run, what's to come?

What's today?

'Cause we hunt you down without mercy

Hunt you down all nightmare long

Feel us breathe upon your face

Feel us shift, every move we trace

Hunt you down without mercy

Hunt you down all nightmare long, yeah

Luck. Runs.

You crawl back in

But your luck runs out

1.2.

Luck. Runs. Out.

The light that is not light is here

To flush you out with your own fear

You hide, you hide, but will be found

Release your crypt without a sound

Still life

Immolation

Still life

Infamy

Hallucination

Heresy

Still you run, what's to come?

What's today?

'Cause we hunt you down without mercy

Hunt you down all nightmare long

Feel us breathe upon your face

Feel us shift, every move we trace

Hunt you down without mercy

Hunt you down all nightmare long

Luck. Runs. Out.

You crawl back in

But your luck runs out

Then you crawl back in

Into your obsession

Never to return

This is your confession

Hunt you down without mercy

Hunt you down all nightmare long

Feel us breathe upon your face

Feel us shift, every move we trace

Hunt you down without mercy

Hunt you down all nightmare long, yeah

Luck. Runs. Out.

You crawl back in

But your luck runs out

Your luck runs out

Best song on this album, by a L-O-N-G shot. What Metallica needs is someone who can actually PRODUCE a record. Someone like Andy Sneap or Alex Perialas, who has produced some AWESOME Testament records. Or, what's wrong with Flemming Rasmussen ? He's only produced some of the greatest Metallica records on planet earth, so I don't see why they wouldn't work with him again. I just don't think that Rick Rubin did a great job on Death Magnetic. Just my opinion. Doesn't mean it is everybody's....

i'd say theres only two or so songs that fit that 'natural progression'. the rest of it stinks of bob rock's bull shit

BM is the natural progression. James said "we had pretty much done the longer song format to death," and Lars said they were not trying to prove themselves to anyone anymore. Both did not want the format to get stale. They also wanted songs to "only taking two minutes to get the point across". BA builds on AJFA in that it deconstructs it. It plays it in parts and minimizes the elements BA is still in the acceptable metal range and DM is a hybrid of the new and old. Without BA there is no DM.

I don't agree that BA was the natural progression after AJFA since that's when bob fuckface rock stepped in more (if i'm not mistaken). Regardless what the whole dealio was with that fucker, there's an blatant change from metal to a hard rock style on BA, and i think DM is reverting back to the thrashy metal stuff. Therefore, even tho i dont think that if the label let them create their own music they would've created DM after AJFA, i think DM would be considered a more natural progression

Well, DM would have been made after the Black album not AJFA, so you would have to judge it from there. The Black album was the natural progression from AJFA, it was fully what Metallica intended, and artistically honest. Skip the non-Metallica albums and you get to DM - Its the sequel to the B.A after a 20 year hiatus. I would have been satisfied with this record in the mid 90s, with a Black album buffer. We know though as later it got into the 90s, the worse the record would have turned out.

I completely understand that, and yep you are right. You can still loosely compare them, though. Lets say this was put out in 1990, i think that i would've enjoyed '90 version of DM more than i do this version. Having said that, i still think that it would have been a let down after AJFA.

AJFA was written and recorded in circa 1988, this album would not have sounded like this if it came out right after that. People don't realize the power of culture, scene, time and place has on the creation of music. In 1988 there was a structure that supported the creation of AJFA, Metal is different now and no one can recreate the 80s creative process. DM is a great record that sounds like now, and next album they will put in a Black Album vibe, but it will still sound like now. The 80s are...

I wouldn't necessarily say "everything is forgiven". Ya DM is definitely a turn in the correct direction, it doesn't compare to old thrash metallica, imo. I think that maybe part of the reason why it seems like a strong album is because it's predecessor(s) were complete shit lol. If this was made 15+ years ago after AJFA, it woulda been a big let down for fans. What i want to see is what metallica puts out next, or if they do.
