Tell me whaur ye're gaun, lad,

An who ye're gaun tae meet

A'm headed for the station

That's in Buchanan Street,

A'll join 200,000

That's there tae meet the train

That's bringing back tae Glesca

Our ain dear John MacLean

Dominie,

Dominie

There was nane like John MacLean,

The fightin Dominie

Tell me whaur he's been, lad,

An why has he been there?

They've had him in the prison

For preachin in the Square,

For Johnny held a finger up

Tae aa the ills he saw,

He was right side o the people,

But the wrang side o the law

Johnny was a teacher

In one o Glasgow's schools

The golden law was silence

But Johnny broke the rules,

For a world o social justice

Young Johnny couldnae wait,

He took his chalk an easel

Tae the men at the shipyard gate

The leaders o the nation

Made money hand ower fist

By grindin doun the people

By the fiddle an the twist,

Aided an abetted

By the preacher an the Press

John caad for revolution

An he caad for nothin less

The bosses an the judges

United as one man

For Johnny was a danger

Tae their '14-'18 plan,

They wanted men for slaughter

In the fields o Armentiers,

John caad upon the people

Tae smash the profiteers

They brought him to the courtroom

In Edinburgh toun,

But still he didnae cower,

He firmly held his ground,

An stoutly he defended

His every word an deed,

Five years it was his sentence

In the jail at Peterheid

Seven months he lingered

In prison misery

Till the people rose in fury,

In Glesca an Dundee,

Lloyd George an aa his cronies

Were shaken tae the core,

The prison gates were opened,

An John was free once more

==========================

John MacLean was a Scottish schoolteacher ("Dominie" in Scots) and Marxist educator who was sentenced to two years' imprisonment in 1918 for agitating against the carnage of World War 1. Due to popular outrage and demonstrations, he was released after 7 months but the harsh treatment he received in prison seriously damaged his health and he died a few years later.

& yes, he still has me blocked their!! Unbelievable, you spend years backing him up only to.....¬¬ Blocked for pointing out that he was no longer an MP anymore (he was't at the time) & was using a FB page that had a massive audience target ATT, to punt his inane non political books on his out of date MP FBook page. <3 his speeches, but in truth he is a hypocrite of a man. Wish he was't but the fact is $£$£$££$£ is what really turn him on. FACT!

Gawjuss Geo is unbelievably computa savvy. GG Knows better than any MP MSP, MEP, on how to make technology (IT) work for you. I have 1st hand experience of this from GG himself. We actually fell out coz he was using a dated FBook page called George Galloway MP when he was no longer an MP. This annoyed me,as he had properly named pages but they did not have a half million audience. Page he was using to punt a book about Celtic FC on. Im a CFC Fan & also a GG fan, & knowthis he's 1 greedy cunt!

No, wait, can we just return this working class and ask for a better one please? We all have our frustrations, but we have to work for our ends with the situation as we actually find it. Yes, it would be lovely if "they" all felt the same as "us", but it's not the fault of the working classes (yes, as you say, they/we still exist in millions), it's easy to focus the blame that way but you'll just end up bitter, cynical and self-destructive.

Socialism in Britain will never be allowed to take hold. Far from moving towards that end we are rocketing in the opposite direction: travelling ever farther away. It was over when our Labour Party turned to Thatcherites. Our General Elections are a straight choice between Thatcherism and Thatcherism. With independence we give ourselves, at the very least, hope. Considering how much Thatcher is despised up here... I don't think we'll see ANY major party pushing Thatcherism let alone all of them.

It was often Billy Connolly (yes, *that* Billy Connolly, the comedian) who played for Matt. I'll have to check the record sleeve that this is on to see who was playing here.

You speak as if George Galloway is dead or something?

Within living memory the Tories were the biggest party in Scotland. They even got straight majorities in Scotland. Don't bank on the fantasy of Scottish exceptionism and Alex Salmond's rubbish about a "natural scoial democratic majority" in Scotland. You're in it with the rest of us and the labour and socialist movement are far stonger united.

and you think they're not stoked from Edingurgh too? Dream on.

Oi, not all English people are Tories! Internationalism and class politics, not petty nationalism.

My point exactly. Well, we can start it right here. Or even better there's a group on Facebook called "Campaign for a John MacLean statue" which I've just joined and posted my proposal.
