This scene is from the 1987 film MADE IN HEAVEN starring Timothy Hutton and Kelly McGillis, now available on DVD from the Warner Archive. The song "We've Never Danced" was written by Neil Young and performed here by the great Matraca Berg, one of the top female songwriters in Country Music history. Her voice is as great as her songwriting, but she has been unable to receive the exposure as a singer that she has as a songwriter.

"We've Never Danced" was also recorded for the film by Martha Davis of The Motels, and that version is played during the end credits. That recording is the only one listed in the film's credits - where it is correctly listed twice. But there is no mention of Matraca Berg performing the song, so many people believe Martha Davis is the singer in the studio scene. Martha Davis' recording was included on the film's soundtrack album, as well as a compilation CD of The Motels. Matraca's recording of the song has never been released!

I loved this movie when I was 13 years old and I just purchased it and love it as a 39 year old. The vision or heaven is uplifting and the interaction with Elmo and Mike's elderly dying mother was perhaps the most touching scene I've ever seen in a movie. Try to figure out the cater who plays Emmett. I finally looked it up on IMDb because the credits don't reveal it. I wouldn't have guessed in a million years who it was. The actor was a pretty famous iconic "actor" of that time period.

I adore this song. Martha's version is great but I think I like Ms. Berg's interpretation better. I hope this gets released someday.

The soundtrack album was never released on CD. But if you do find the soundtrack album in another format, you still will not find this recording. It was not included on the album - only the end credits version by Martha Davis was included on the album.

@deanski9 ...Funny. Almost the same thing happened to me. I had not seen this movie since 1988. I only saw it once and then forgot about it. I was sitting up and thinking of a movie to get my wife and suddenly I remembered a tidbit from this movie for some reason. I searched the net for hours until I finally remembered the actress was Kelly McGillis, and BAAAAM! I found it title on IMDB. Tonight we watched it. My wife for the 1st time and me the 2nd in 23 years. Not a movie ANYONE should forget.
