He may have the best snare drum sound in the history of rock.. it's not always apparent on their albums though

Back in the good old days... When Dennis Miller was still just a douche-bag personally - not yet politically.

What the hell was with the handshake? Miller left Ellison hanging... that was awkward!

@hectorsalinasisback Romantics had 1 good song if you ask me - and that was only a re-working of a well-used Tex-Mex riff. I put them in the same league as The Knack. Paul Collins Beat however were one of the most influential powerpop bands of all time and they set the standard for many others to come. MI's songs weren't all great but they recorded several powerpop classics. If you had a good ear for powerpop you would see that right away. What is your real problem with the band?

this is really cool. there are jim's 30 watt high watt combos (aiming backwards) behind the 4 x12 cabs & notice jim's tech is operating the wa wa off stage! jim has no wa wa onstage. love this !!

@zgusto You can't deny, these guys sound like Christian rock! The Knack may have had a lot of weak material, but let's talk about The Romantics or The Paul Collins Beat! The Beat are still out there making new albums and touring. From a quality standpoint, their new material surpasses anything Material Issue did.

@hectorsalinasisback you're a knucklehead! why do you post this same drivel on multiple MI songs on you tube??? Have something against the band? What kind of Jack ass says "These guys didn't have good songs......" What a stupid statement!!!! They had awesome power pop tunes. Those other bands are good too....but come on The Knack had 2 or 3 good tunes.........MI had 20! Go rave about your favorite bands on their posts, why slink around and post this shit comment?

These guys didn't have good songs like legendary power pop groups such as The Romantics, The Paul Collins Beat, Cheap Trick and The Knack. That first Paul Collins Beat LP and that first Romantics LP are solid albums of perfect power pop.

They look so young! Time has gone by so fast. I miss this band.

@9AirMcNair I saw them at the Hard Rock in Chicago on New years Eve...was blown away. Any chance you have that show recorded or know where I can see it again?

I saw them several times at Mississippi Nights in St. Louis. Great shows.

Thanks for posting this show, this is the first time I've seen Material Issue (MI) play live, despite that I've been buying their albums since 1992. [I'm not a fan of the smarmy Dennis Miller, but his show is apparently good for something. :-)] MI was a great live band, very tight and not excessively flashy; they are compelling to watch primarily from the heat of their songs and playing. I'm thinking again Jim Ellison's suicide was one of rock's great losses...
