I know most people hate other people who write long comments.... but I have a compulsion to write xDGreat great level of music production... love that mix of instrumentation.... I'm trying to learn how to mix.. and this is a dream example of what I'd love to do some day... just heard song for first time (as well as hearing any of Mats work for first time)... great song.. Lyrically really got me too. This is what it's about for me. I think what he's expressing might be totally different.. and also open to be interpreted in many ways for different people.I love the humble honest recognition of what he had, in terms of basic needs and standard of living in todays world... and also the acknowledgement (in how I interpret it) of how those who have human variations in cognitive function get marginalised, judged, labeled, mistreated in a society that does not accommodate those differences. So end up being the "black sheep"."What's wrong with me?".... with reference to the reason for "being a black sheep" for what I see as being "me", the answer is: Nothing.... aside from us all being imperfect humans... the differences about us "black sheep" that are called "wrong" are just labels from an unaccommodating environment/society, where there's mass ignorance about human diversity... the things about us that are called wrong, are actually part of what our strengths are..... it's like Einstein said... "if you judge a fish by its ability to climb trees, it will go about life believing there is something wrong with it" . We are those fish... and society is full of trees to climb.... and if you don't climb that tree, you are: "fill in the blank *__* " with a list of derogatory, negative names such as lazy, bad, stupid, in-the-way, disruptive...... Einsteins parents were told, "he is a useless student, he will never amount to anything"...... Well... later in life he discovered how to be like a fish in water. As did many people who did some of the greatest things the world has seen. For Mat Kearney to be doing what he's doing now... he's broken through mountains... while still being humble and real enough to express gratitude for the shoes on his feet, clothes in his wardrobe, roof over his head. So it's not about complaining or being a victim..... it's about awareness of a "majority rules" society shaping the systems we function in, to accommodate the majority and marginalise the minority.... who evidently have a lot to participate in society... so that's a real point there.... when we marginalise differences in people through ignorance or intent, it's a loss to us all collectively... and to the majority of those individuals, it's a loss to what they are capable of in every area of their life. In fact, staggering numbers of people are so branded by the level of marginalisation and mistreatment, that they fill our prison systems, unemployment numbers.. not to mention divorce rates, developing mental health issues, addictions. It's a real loss to our world... because we miss out on what people can bring... empathy, compassion, creativity... and so on.In a wider view.... "what's wrong with me" is something most humans might ask... as inadequacy and low self esteem seems to be a driving force in techniques to bring order to chaos... with the use of fear stimuli, through establishments and industries in social, religious, political, military, financial, media spheres....which I think are littered with sociopaths, who climb their way to positions... and make decisions that no other empathy-feeling-humans can... and call it "progress"...... when in truth we're living in a system of infinite growth, ravenously devouring its way through finite resources and leaving a trail of polution, destruction and suffering behind it..... they will say it's because of evil or because of human greed...... but truth I see is: It's because we need to..... hmm... let me just quote Carl Sagan: "Our species needs, and deserves, a citizenry with minds wide awake and a basic understanding of how the world works.".... which includes the wide variety of brain variations which make very different kinds of humans.... which currently through mass ignorance on this, people get mislabeled on an insane scale things like: good, bad, successful, failure, criminal, idiot, evil, stupid, crazy, lazy, trustworthy..... and by what standards ?The standards we are conditioned to see. Standards and values we need to look at and examine... "the illiterate of the 21st century will not be those who cannot read or write. but those who cannot learn, unlearn and relearn" - Alvin Toffler.Anyways... totally got side tracked about 20 times there xD... I will await being made a black sheep for commenting this long hahah
