Ok. I love Martina but to say that she does it better than Tammy is ridiculous. Tammy's voice alone was one of the reasons she could carry this Billy Sherrill produced hit. Let's try to keep in mind how good singers sound nowadays thanks to the incredible strides in audio production. Martina is good but Tammy is better just as Tammy wouldn't be able to carry a Martina song.

This is an awesome performance. I am a huge fan of real singers and I love Martina. She has such a big voice. I just can't like Carrie U. And I have tried. Her voice just hasn't matured, in my opinion. She is not at the place in career where Martina was at that point. She always sounds pinched. Carrie is more marketable simply because she put herself out there. Martina never did; she was a Mom first and sacrificed a lot to keep her family together. She passed up millions of dollars to stay home. That was her focus. She loves performing not the hype that goes with it. I always respected her for that.

Just a fantastic performance on a wonderful song. Martina has power and sweetness, a special combination in a voice. She is much better than Tammy. I realize many will disagree, but Tammy had an interesting voice and more of a country oriented, not a great one. Martina has the pipes to sing any kind of song well. But Tammy, like Hank, had a very special skill at writing songs with truly meaningful lyrics.

Obviously there is no substitute for the original ,no one could do it like Tammy did she had a dynamic voice that could put them all to shame. But the fact that they tried is a living tribute the Greatest Country Female vocalist of all time RIP Tammy we swill surely miss that voice that is now immortalize in every ones heart .

I agree with your statement. Martina McBride is the better vocalist, though. Carrie is more marketable, though. She sings about love and break-ups and Martina focusses on personal issues: suicide, domestic violence, child abuse, alcoholism, etc.

Cont. 2/2 ---> compliments the lyrics with the appropriate emotion that the song conveys. There are many so-called pitch perfect country singers today, but unless I see their face, I cannot always recognize who is singing because many of the voices lack distinction. Without distinction, it is just another song and another over-dressed country singer without soul or feeling. Martina's voice is distinctive enough, but she did not sing this song as well as Tammy because it lacked a bit of emotion.

A very good performance by Martina and she was wise by not changing the style of the song so much as to ruin it. I've been reading the ridiculous back and forth arguments about who has the better voice in country music today and who can hit this and that note pitch perfect. But, having the perfect voice in country music is just a very small part of a singer's success or at least it used to be. Oh wow! I just came from listening to Carrie Underwood singing this song and mentioned his Martina and Carrie has that perfect voice for this song and can pull it off and here I am listening to Martina. So happy she did a cover too! Both Carrie and Martina hit those high notes perfectly!
