The Tuning is Csus4 Add9 if anyone needs to know the name of the tuning, look up his video on Vagrant Stanzas, he gives the tunings used on that album. Three in total , the other two being G sus4 over 4 and also a C Banjo adapted tuning for Guitar which is also sometimes referred to as the "Orkney" Tuning.

It's in C-G-C-F-C-D. Once you've got the tuning, it's not a terribly hard song to learn, except for his frailing, which I've always struggled with.

@geoffbabirecki I disagree with it being sad, I find it very inspirational. It makes you want to go out and achieve what you can with the time you are given. Don't be tied up in thinking what's going to happen after this life is over, have no regrets. It's a great tune. I love the line "Paradise is right here on Earth".

I'll preface this comment by saying that the song is beautiful and the execution of it is wonderful as is the guitar playing. As a message song, and by extension, as an atheist hymnal it is effective but it leaves a strange and sad hollow afterglow for me, because I want to say that Jehovah has already come down from His mountain in the person of Jesus. He knows the beauty of this earth because He made it. He is not indifferent or ignorant to us, and death is not the end...!!!

To me music is the height of human achievements and Martin Simpson a master. I could listen to his playing all day long. One of my very favourite musicians. Martin - Thank you.

After 50 years as a Catholic (and, for many of those years, a Cathoic school teacher), this is a very sad, but beautiful song. Life after death would be nice wouldn't it? But the truth has to be accepted. Sad, but, that's how it is. Thanks for playing and sining the song so beautifully. Geoffindoncaster

our future is in our own hands. A future of beauty or destruction..... it's our choice. Probably a lot of both. :-)

@youbintubinallday i think you missed the point, as i've said on another video, this song is saying that BOTH heaven and hell are on this earth, we don't need the promises of heaven because of the outstanding beauty of the world and the people we are with, and we don't need the threat of hell, because there is nothing more evil than what can be done by man kind. i hope this clears up the meaning behind this beautiful song.
