As much as I love and adore Pavarotti for his multitude of beautiful songs, I admit Mario Lanza sings this more beautifully and less strained. Mario Lanza's voice was so powerful, natural and warm...he is beyond compare.

It is the bestseller, A KID FROM PHILADELPHIA, MARIO LANZA, THE VOICE OF THE POETS. It is a series of essays that exhibit his life and ability to be the greatest of tenor and the greatest of performers.

Just to widen the spread, try a little Lanza. It is interesting to go through YouTube and compare his renditions of some of the standards from the tenor's repertoire. Mario Lanza lacked the formal musical training of others, but his natural talent was incredible. Sadly, he died quite young, and a great talent was lost.
