MOMENTS TO REMEMBER for JULY 29 - Composer SIGMUND ROMBERG (Jul 29, 1887 - Nov 9, 1951) is best remembered for his musicals and operettas, most famously “The New Moon” “The Desert Song” and “The Student Prince,” written in 1924 with book and lyrics by Dorothy Donnelly. MGM’s 1954 film version of “The Student Prince” was to have starred Mario Lanza, hugely popular at the time but also a notoriously difficult high-maintenance personality. After recording his soundtrack vocals, Lanza was fired from the production and his singing voice was lip-synched onscreen by lead actor Edmond Purdom.
