Nice version of the old Steeleye Span classic. Maddy's gorgeous alto voice just keeps getting better. No copyright or ownership implied by this video.

Music: Lark in the Morning from the album "Arthur the King."

These photos together with Maddy's voice, give a wonderful sense of stability and continuity. A time when although filled with poverty and hard work, it seemed so simple and free of turmoil and just the basics had to be met.

Those photographs are by Frank Meadow Sutcliffe and a fine evocation of late Victorian Whitby. Whitby is still a magical place, I have been going there for nearly fifty years now. A lot of changes, but still recognisably unique.

I will stick my neck out and say that all these pictures are from the Herbert Sutcliffe collection,, he was a renowned photographer from this area and timeline. Times were hard but they all look happy and content which is more than a lot of kids now can say, more's the pity. I have a book about the fishing community from this time, I will find it out and write further on this subject if people are interested.

Truly a wondrous voice! I've been exploring the 60's folk scene since I discovered Young Tradition a year ago and I grow more amazed with every "new" discovery. Also I see it as my duty to pass every little treassure on to whom ever might appreciate it as much as I do!
