Sheryl is defiantly built more Business requiring the standards they want. She has all the assets, 'sexy' factor. She also loves singing. Ranka doesn't have the assets but that doesn't mean she won't make it in show business? Did you not watch the anime, she literally fought in the war with both Sheryl and alto. Ranka is a lot stronger than she looks and she just wants to sing. Sheryl unlike Ranka is confidence in showing her emotions via other means. { Like when she kisses Alto and such. Ranka wasn't able to do that because of her shy nature. It doesn't make her any less childish. Some people express themselfs differently. } Ranka likes to show everyone how she feels by singing. Her strive to be a singer is the reason why she would make in the business. She'll get knocked down several times.{ Even Sheryl does. } But she'd get back up due to the whole passion for singing, she's worked hard to get to the place she's got now and won't stop. You are basing her career based off her looks. Which is wrong. Just because she looks fragile, doesn't mean she actually is. Ranka's strong point is that she doesn't give up. Sheryl actually sees her as a Rival which is a big thing considering how long she's been in the business. She knows Ranka can make it. Ranka appeals to the side of audience Sheryl doesn't. I like them both.. Just so you know I'm not hating on any of them. Just wanted to say that basing Ranka's luck in the entertainment business just on her looks is wrong. :D 10 years ago

Why is it always that the girls who we want to end up with the main male character in macross never ends up with him? I thought about watching the series through, I haven't yet, but now learning that he ends up with Sheryl I don't even want to go through the rollercoaster again. SMH. v.v10 years ago

I love Sheryl, and I don't understand why people would hate her. She's strong, and independent and she's not afraid of anything. Ranka strives to hold her own in her career and I think that's admirable. They're two completely different people but there's no need to compare to whose better; they're both pretty amazing. 10 years ago

I don't think anybody who is calling Sheryl a whore understands the idol business. She's not being a whore and dressing skimpily like Sheryl is common occurrence for idols. movie spoiler!! Just watched the second movie. Ending sucks hard! and the whole movies , too, it´s all sherylxalto and ranka does not participe so much as in the series, in the anime we see together participating and there is an open end and happier. Movies so dramatic and ugly antagonists. Ranka in the movies just sings and that is all for her. Aimo its only for ranka, the song and the power. So forced the dialogues. I DONT RECOMMEND THEM. It looks attractive because of the graphics, just that11 years ago
