"I Just Wanted To See You So Bad" from Lucinda Williams' 1989 'Live From Austin TX' performance. Buy it today on Amazon http://amzn.to/175snlb.

This is a real musical treasure -- Lucinda Williams' very first appearance (of three) on Austin City Limits, recorded October 13, 1989, and one of the highlights of the 15th anniversary season. She was riding the wave of her hit song, "Passionate Kisses," that buoyant paean to desire and hope that appeared on several rock critics' "best of" lists the year before. In fact, it seemed like everybody was wild about Lucinda. What was it about her -- the songs, full of raw emotion? The voice -- exuding longing, desire, passion? All that and more.

@ancorasenza sounds to me like she writes from raw, exposed nerves.

she is an amazing artist. she interprets her feelings like a brush on a canvas. she captures and draws her life through lyrics and music. when most see shadows, she sees and feels the details.

The power of suggestion is strong for Lucinda as she follows Gurf's lead in taking of the well deserved refreshment...lol!

OH MY GOD. I'VE LISTENED TO THIS CRAZY MANIAC FRENTIC SONG ALMOST 300 TIMES IN 3 DAYS. I CAN'T STOP, I NEED TREATMENT. (a version from a show in minneapolis (oct. 23, 2008) makes it the most glorious/enchanting love song i've ever listened to.) come to south america, LW!

This is from the first of two Live From Austin Texas DVD's in 1989. She said it was the first time they'd played to such a big audience, and they'd never experienced such a loud applause. Didn't distract from the performance though. I wonder if Gurf still has that jacket.

LW is always amazing. Been a fan of hers for a long time, but this video reminds me of Johnette Napolitano (Concrete Blonde) - just because of her eyes. And the guitar player looks a bit like James Manke.

I love the country singing days of Lucinda's singing. She's a bit laid back and mellow over the past decade. Girl used to be able to belt it out like Loretta Lynn's understudy. She never has done even an average album but with how great West and Car Wheels are, people can forget just how great her self-titled debut and Sweet Old World are.

@hydensecret agreed. i loved the fire of the self titled album and "sweet old world", back when she was collaborating with gurf morlix and rocking out. i have tried over and over to get into the "car wheels" type material, but it's just not all that interesting to me.

lovely comment perfectly captures Lucinda it's that ability to see the inner light shining through the everyday feelings you said it better when just waking up and starting a new day is important I just saw her in Toronto and wished I'd brought my daughter (14 years old) just so she could see one helluva grown woman

Lucinda Williams is the genius in front of this music. This is her original Rough Trade band (Gurf Morlix on guitar, Donald Lindley on drums and Dr. John Ciambotti on bass). This is where it first all came together.

Gurf Morlix is the genius behind this music. Lucinda didn't believe enough in herself for awhile, but she sure does now.
