Another pioneer of the double bass concept. I simply love this man's licks. Another vid from drummerworld.com. (even though I've been playing guitar for a little over two and a half years, I have the deepest respect and admiration for drummers.)

And he actually looks happy while he’s drumming unlike Buddy Rich who always had that snarl on his face when he played lol

Classic. I got to spend a day with this GENTLEMAN. Then he invited me to see him play that night at Jazz Alley, front table, I could put a hand on either bass drum. One of the best days ever.

Bellson was so goofy and unnatural he gets on my nerves.

Mr. Louie Bellson phenominal drummer. Above all a gentleman who was respected and loved by all the musicians he worked with. Enough Said.

Drumming is no speed contest but he is certainly fast. That part in the middle is insane. Very fast but also with changing rhythm.

It must be satisfying getting all dressed up in a nice suit and tie and then knocking ten bags of shit out of a drum kit.

Met with Louis Bellson and set up his large Slingerland drum kit when he did a drum demo at Bill Greenhalgh's music shop in Exeter, Devon many years ago in the l980's, (Kenny Clare was also there), both nice people, and Louis who is a great drummer was also a gentleman ,who offered his grateful thanks to me for setting up his kit. Sadly missed, God Bless from Keith Jones Bude, Cornwall.

Wow. Rockin' a double bass in the 1950's. I can only imaging how many young people's parents thought this idea was straight from the devil himself. haha. I turned this guy up in doing a study of the double-bass. He's the guy who invented it. Nice to know.

Amazing! I saw Louie in 1983 at Zildjian day at Berklee, in Boston. He was incredible. Fluid playing, unmatched style. The obvious comparison is Buddy Rich, but they were different.
