I love this song but the drummer's mic is too loud. Other than that it's great!

nothing that special; no surprise her career tanked.

Interesting acoustic take on this song. I am vertically challenged same as Liz. I would love to take her shopping form1970's platform shoes or roller skating to look and feel like the lean and slinky six footers in the rock music biz. This little mighty mite woman proves...good things come in small packages. Thanks.

Drummer needs to stick to drumming. I guess at least he is trying. Thanks for the upload!

Argh. That dude's harmony did not do it for me all the way. Other than that, pure gold.

But I still do like a lot of stuff on Guyville. Don't want to sound too negative. Better than the over-produced stuff she's done more recently...

There is a difference between being "over produced" and not being a compelling live performer. Live shows are a combination of quality music (which, you are right, is often diminished by too much production polish) and personal qualities that make people interested in you. If you have enough musical quality, charisma issues matter less. To me, Liz Phair's music was never as good as was claimed, even on Guyville, and she couldn't do the star thing either. Lo-fi is fine, if it is interesting.

But, I guess you have a point, when you compare her to the Stones or the Who, or many many bands that make you feel so alive and connected when you hear them live. So, I apologize... I didn't mean to contradict you. :)

But the opposite is what's wrong with American "entertainment". I'd much rather listen to low-fi shit like Liz Phair than over produced live shows that just "use" music as a vehicle for the spectacle. I want to hear PEOPLE that look and sound like friends, not production companies.

She was just never a compelling performer. This is pretty common these days, probably even more so than it was than, with all the technology surrounding recording and video production. You can make really good albums without being able to put it over live. After that big bang with Exile, she freaked out with Supernova and then became pretty boring. I had certainly hoped for better. But she was overhyped. Did the critics in guyville just want her to be their blowjob queen?
