This is probably one of the best songs on the movie along with I dreamed a dream both so sad and meaningful, I cry every time I listen to it, good work Eddie redmayne ❤️❤️❤️

Most feel like they should've shown his friends in the back like they did on Broadway, but that's something I think should be left with live performances of this song. Cause with the flim it shows that he is truly and utterly alone, now that they are dead.

Enjolras: Why are there so many empty chairs and empty tables? Well maybe if Marius had put them on the BARRICADE like I told him to, we wouldn't all be DEAD.

I never really ever have high expectations for movie musicals. Ever. Now, while Russell Crowe in general and the "Master of the House" number met that expectation perfectly (which is to say, not impressing me at all) and most of it hit the "Good adaptation, but not particularly impressive" waypoint (surprisingly hard to hit), Eddie (along with Sam and Anne) is one of the few that really, really, REALLY impressed me. Which is saying something, especially when you consider "Empty Chairs at Empty Tables" is one of if not my favorite song in the musical and one of the ones I judge the most critically exactly for that reason. And this is now one of my favorite versions, along with Michael's and the Marius (can't remember his name) I saw in Cleveland at the Palace Theatre about three or four years ago (which also supplied my favorite Thernardiers). There's just so much raw emotion here. The pain in his voice is tangible; from the numbness in the beginning to the wailing grief towards the end. Wonderful.

An early glimpse of how incredible Redmayne is... this man will be going places. He's probably going to have another two Oscars on his mantle before his time is up.

Is there anything Eddie Redmayne can't do?
