Although Leonard Cohen performed "Do I Have To Dance All Night" frequently in concerts during the 1976 and 1980 tours (the 1976 and 1980 versions differ; my video for the 1980 version is found at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oRwgE3d3eK4), it was released only as a seven inch single, originally recorded at a 1976 concert in Paris, for sale in Europe. There was, of course, no official video.

But now - well, there still isn't an official Do I Have To Dance All Night video. In my ongoing crusade to introduce others to this wonderful, under-appreciated gem of a song, however, I have cobbled together a pastiche of Cohen-associated photos and clips that kinda sorta fits the music from my own copy of that 1976 record. (A Reference Key is available at http://1heckofaguy.com/2009/05/06/do-i-have-to-dance-all-night-video-reference-key/)

Both versions of Do I Have To Dance All Night are tracks on The Other Leonard Cohen Album,a compilation of unreleased Leonard Cohen performances over a 30+ year period. Information about this collection, rated #24 On Uncut's Greatest Bootlegs, can be found at .http://1heckofaguy.com/?p=6440

Kinda sad he didn´t bother recording that ´til now. Great song. Emphasizing the correct word, great SONG, not only the lyrics! Happens seldomly enough when Cohen puts out a record.

Thanks. It's great to hear one of my favorite voices ever on background vocals.

I saw this live on his tour. I never understood, that it was not on any LP. I bought the Single two times. We often used in on Parties;-)

I'll add information about downloading this song and other live Cohen music to the "About" section later this morning

The B-side of that 7" is an interesting live version of The Butcher, which, curiously, seems to not be on YouTube.

Listen again. I felt the same way too. But it kind of grew on me, now fingerprints is one of my favourites. I kind of like the juxtaposition between the absurdly upbeat music and the tragedy of the lyrics. :)

This is wonderful! Can't believe I've never heard it or of it! Thanks so much for sharing! PS. Love the images you've put with it too. So cool watching him dance and I hate just watching a static image, sort of defeats the purpose of a video clip.

Clearly mad. I know Leonard hated the Spector collaboration, but for my money it's the best thing either of them ever did, period, an utter masterpiece

I agree that it would be a better world were this on an album but would also suggest that the fact that this song was not released on an album (as per my introductory blurb, "it was released only as a seven inch single, originally recorded at a 1976 concert in Paris, for sale in Europe") is also part of its allure.

Its not on any album - not so fun fact

Sorry, but Do I Have To Dance All Night has nothing to do with Death Of A Ladies' Man, the Spector-Cohen collaboration.

this must be from the album that was produced by Phil Sepctor. I had it, only listened to it once, just so unhappy with what he did, behind closed doors, with Leonard's music. But hey it's Leonard, it simply can never be bad.

Mon premier enregistrement à l'Olympia. Habituellement on effectuait les enregistrements en monophonie. A la demande de Léonard Cohen nous l'avons effectué en stéréophonie.
