The king loved to show himself off in public, and these luxurious performances were also politically motivated, aiming at proclaiming the power of the French kingdom to the whole world. It just doesn't get much more regal and passionate than that! Lulli has an amazing gift for injecting passion and emotion into what would otherwise be a boring, two dimensional, black and white, royal ego trip. Lulli's music gives true meaning to the word majesty!

The film was interesting, but Louis XIV was an excellent dancer as a youth. He didn't just stand there posing and waving his arms. It's a shame to do a film called "The King Dances" with such a poor understanding and representation of 17th C dance.
