LaVerne Baker was truly a great talent I first began to listen to the NY Rock and Roll and R&B stations back in 1962 at age 12 and loved the oldies shows on Saturday night on WABC where I heard these great classics which to me at the time were ancient being five years or more older now the decades pass as if in the blink of an eye Once I found the oldies record shops in Manhattan I started buying hundred of oldies at 99 cents a piece I lived in the Bronx and took EL and subway from about age 12 and little did my family know just how far a field I went exploring Manhattan and even Coney Island in Brooklyn
