Sounded like Ace stepped into the first rehearsal playing just fine to me. I just heard calling dr. love and Deuce in there and it sounded like Ace, not any replacement who had to re-teach him his own stuff. While that may have happened at some point, I am sure it was because someone made him do it. Really, did he need it? I would suppose he would have picked some of the stuff he hadn't played in a while just fine.

Still, there's a lot of great material to be found in all eras of KISS thanks in large part to all of the various members differences. Long live KISS!

True. I'm extremely glad that the band has continued in any form. Each era has inarguable plus moments, part of what makes KISSTORY so fascinating. Tommy/Eric are professional workhorses for sure. IMHO, they just lack the "it" factor, but that's inevitable when given the task of donning the makeup/costumes/characters of two legends. Unfortunately, Ace/Peter have massive charisma but lack work ethic/professionalism (their solo careers have been very sporadic as heck), but when ON they're ON.

Oh definately. I am sure even Paul gets fed up. Remember a while back he made a comment about Gene's attitude? But the good thing is that Gene knows that you just can't replace what's been going strong for a couple of years now. That's why Tommy and Eric are still with the band. The good thing is that Gene has given them song writing credits on the newer albums. Whether they actually wrote the songs can be debatable though.

Oh, yeah. It takes all kinds of personalities to run the world let alone a band. I love Gene for what he is. The same goes for all of the band. Still, everyone's been around that one person who sours the mood because they're taking something that nobody else is SUPER seriously, like a cheesy "you're listening to WKRP, rock on!" He'd cut them off and make them do take after take for no real reason until you could see everyone, including Paul, get pissed. That kind of thing adds up.

I realize Gene is a control freak. But have you ever considered the fact that were he not a control freak the band would not be where it is today? If a spoke on the rim of your bicycle becomes either loose, or missing, you're going to feel the difference in the ride. There was reportedly a time on tour where Gene/Kiss Corporation lost a lot of money. I am sure that after an experience like that, you ARE going to become a control freak.

You're right KISS is still alive, but Gene really is a control freak at times when it's totally unnecessary and sometimes not when he should be. Every single little promo I've seen them try to do for even just a "you're watching WKRP" or whatever, winds up taking forever because Gene is ultra controlling. The rest of the guys, Paul too, seem to get along and have fun, but Gene takes that small stuff way too seriously. He should ride them on the drug and booze and destructive stuff, though.

Yes, he did.. Granted, they would've eventually got signed, but Gene got the ball rolling for them, he absolutely did.. And I'm not a big Simmons' fan either, but it's a fact. Everyone knows this... and did you know EVH wanted to join KISS after Ace left? True story. Gene told him to stick it out with Dave and VH...

So you are saying that the original KiSS lineup would have still been active today if Gene wouldn't have been a control freak? That's like you saying that you can still ride your motorcycle to work despite the fact that you have two flat tiires. Gene couldn't control the drugs and alchohol that were influencing Ace and Peter. And for the record, Kiss is still Kiss without Ace and Peter. All the songs and the makeup are still the same.
