A very under rated band. Very good band though.

This song just blew my mind when I first heard it on the radio in the 70's ! Among the covers" Blackmore's Night, 2010. I put both versions in my "Richie + Candice" playlist. Thanks for uploading!

What a beautiful song....just beautiful...and melancholy as well...reminds me of sitting at the bar at Barney's Beanery in the mid 80's

My sweet lil wife & I spent a week in SoCal a few years back. This song is so true...so bittersweet. These guys have something to write such songs. I knew all those old stars due to my parents deming the old movies of value. We spent a couple days in Hollywood on the strip. Pics of the stars of all the celluloid heroes. Even saw Gort from The Day The Earth Stood Still in the Hollywood Museum. Saw the stars on Hollywood Blvd I took pics of to show my coworkers that would never live to see these great sights. We were there the day that blond singer girl got her star. They never really die. Even took my wife to the original Fredrick's of Hollywood & showed her the outfits worn by the starlettes mom & dad showed us in those old movies. It's true they never really die! I just wanted to honor her for staying with me for so long by showing her the real stuff from all those movies. The walk of fame at Grumman's & all....

Everybody's a dreamer, and everybody's a starAnd everybody's in movies, it doesn't matter who you areThere are stars in every city, in every house and on every streetAnd if you walk down Hollywood Boulevard,Their names are written in concreteDon't step on Greta Garbo as you walk down the BoulevardShe looks so weak and fragile, that's why she tried to be so hardBut they turned her into a princessAnd they sat her on a throneBut she turned her back on stardom,Because she wanted to be aloneYou can see all the stars as you walk down Hollywood BoulevardSome that you recognise, some that you've hardly even heard ofPeople who worked and suffered and struggled for fameSome who succeeded and some who suffered in vainRudolph Valentino looks very much alive,And he looks up ladies' dresses as they sadly pass him byAvoid stepping on Bela Lugosi, 'cause he's liable to turn and biteBut stand close by Bette DavisBecause hers was such a lonely lifeIf you covered him with garbage,George Sanders would still have styleAnd if you stamped on Mickey RooneyHe would still turn 'round and smileBut please don't tread on dearest Marilyn,'Cause she's not very toughShe should have been made of iron or steel,But she was only made of flesh and bloodYou can see all the stars as you walk down Hollywood BoulevardSome that you recognise, some that you've hardly even heard ofAh, people who worked and suffered and struggled for fameSome who succeeded and some who suffered in vainEverybody's a dreamer, everybody's a starAnd everybody's in show biz, it doesn't matter who you areAnd those who are successful, be always on your guard,Success walks hand in hand with failureAlong Hollywood BoulevardI wish my life was a non-stop Hollywood movie showA fantasy world of celluloid villains and heroesBecause celluloid heroes never feel any painAnd celluloid heroes never really die.You can see all the stars as you walk along Hollywood BoulevardSome that you recognise, some that you've hardly even heard ofPeople who worked and suffered and struggled for fameSome who succeeded, and some who suffered in vainLa la la la, la la la la la la, la la la la {twice}Ah, celluloid heroes never feel any painOh, celluloid heroes never really die.I wish my life was a non-stop Hollywood movie showA fantasy world of celluloid villains and heroesBecause celluloid heroes never feel any pain,And celluloid heroes never really die.

Somehow, this sounds like a Belle & Sebastian song to me, Ray even sounds a little bit like Stuart Murdoch on this one.

That one person has the talent to write this and "Waterloo Sunset" is just downright greedy! What a treasure Ray Davies is.
