Kind of bland. Kayak could never decide if they were going in a YES sort of direction, or more straight-ahead r'n'r. FOCUS and EARTH & FIRE were the bands to watch from The Netherlands. Especially the former, when Jan Akkerman was creating a mini-guitar legend.

Merlin by Kayak; good old "nederpop" from one of my favourite concept albums.I'm reminded of this music many times as I am reading "The Mists of Avalon" by Marion Zimmer Bradley. I'm half-way the book now, still 400+ pages to go....

What can I say? This version was my first introduction to this Kayak masterpiece and Edward Reekers is a more than competent singer with a fluent diction which smoothes you away in the song..but the 2003 version with then-vocalist Bert Heerink showed that it could be sung also in an almost metal sort of way with power. I like them both.
