The album Monolith has stood the test of time despite being panned when released. Certainly the songwriting and musicianship are top notch and as good as any Kansas before or since.

I was so in love with Steve Walsh as a teen! :) He hit that note at the end of 'The Pinnacle' on Kirshner's that night back in '75 and I melted. Been hooked on the band ever since.

I saw them in concert in 1996. The lead singer was trying to do handstands on the keyboard.

Kansas was the musically best band of a great time in music. Each musician was a true virtuoso. My favorite was always Robby Steinhardt on violin. A tremendous combination of incredible musicianship, emotion and feeling. Steve Walsh excellent voice/power and feeling, especially at the end of this song. Kerry Livgren was the Mozart of Progressive Rock. His writings were tremendously complex but with the heart and feeling of a poet. Additionally he is a master of both the keyboards and guitar. Phil Ehart steady and expressive. Rich Williams solid and expressive when needed. Dave Hope solid, steady and driving but subtle when needed. As great as each was individually, when they came together they went to an entirely higher level that has never been reached by any touring band. The only bands who came close were Toto, Frank Zappa, Return to Forever and ELP, but Kansas eclipsed them all.

Thanks KansasVEVO for uploading these videos from the Monolith tour, very rare footage indeed despite the audio overdub. Monolith is such an underrated effort.
