Oh, I see you already answered the question. Well, at least I was right! And you're right; it is a great album. "And That Was Yesterday" and "She Don't Understand You Now" seemed to be ripped straight from my own early love life at age 18.

No, that's right, you can't complain! Some of us have to live in what they call "the flyover states", like Texas, and can't afford to go live in NY. Do you think it will ever occur to Jules Shear to play in Dallas, Texas? Maybe the travel expenses would eat up his modest profit. So I have to live vicariously through you and all the other great fans who post videos and songs!

That is so incredibly cool. Jules and Pal were your first show? I'd say you have excellent priorities! I mean, for me it'd all be downhill from there . . . !

The CD you're referring to MIGHT be The Third Party. Look at the booklet, does it include the chord names as well as the lyrics? It's a great little album. A guy named Marty Willson Piper played the acoustic, because for years Shear was embarrased with his own guitar technique, but by the time of his Unplug This EP, he started embracing his own weird style. He tunes his guitar to an open Em7, and frets with his thumb from ABOVE the neck. It is quite strange, but he writes great songs that way!

For those who don't know, this comes from a rare EP Jules Shear did called "Unplug This". It's a compilation of his better-known songs played solo with one acoustic guitar. I think it was packaged with his album The Great Puzzle for a limited special edition. The ORIGINAL version comes from one of Shear's short-lived bands, Reckless Sleepers, on their album, Big Boss Sounds! Also, this song was covered by both Roger McGuinn (of The Byrds) and by Tommy Conwell and the Young Rumblers.

Matt, Can I ask how much they charged? You can email me at [email protected]. When they played the house concert I went to in NJ, they drove down from Woodstock NY and had another guy accompany them on guitar .

I wish I could attend but I'm on the east coast. Still, I've seen Jules and Pal play recently in NY/NJ and they were fantastic, so I can't complain!

Beautiful version of a beautiful song. Jules Shear's recent stuff is excellent too, check out the album he just put out with his wife Pal. There is a video of the new song "see that star" too.

I believe it's call The Third Party. Marty Willson-Piper played the guitar accompaniment. Great stuff top to bottom.

What was the name of the CD? I saw Jules play a living room concert a couple months ago. there were only 25 of us very lucky people there. It was so good. He did not play this song however .

I bought a CD of his about 14 years ago (!?!) with just simple acoustic backup. This song wasn't on it, but maybe this version was recorded at the same time. Sometimes the best music deserves that kind of approach. Still listen to that CD a lot.

I found it on Napster years ago. It's by far the best version I have ever heard. However my video skills as you can see are suspect.

Where did this version come from?

No this is performed by the guy who wrote this beautiful song. Jules Shear who happens to be an incredible songwriter at his finest. Stripped down , raw and honest.
