Taken from an old record - I was so surprised not to find this particular song online, but unfortunately have no clue where/when the recording has been taken.

The lyrics she sings are quite different to most other interpretations I've ever heard; so in my understanding, they're as follows:

'Come in, come in, my love Henry,

stay with me this night,

and you shall have both candle and coal,

my fire burning bright,

my fire burning bright.'

'Well I won't come in, I can't come in,

I won't come in at all.

There's a lady ten times fairer than you

waiting in Lord Barnet's hall.'

And then he bended over her snowwhite pillow,

give her a kiss so sweet;

she drew a pen-knife in her hand,

wounded him full deep,

she wounded him full deep.

And then she picked him up by his long, yellow hair,

also by his feet.

She threw him in her cool draw well

full 50 fathoms deep.

'Lie there, lie there, love Henry,' then she cried,

'I know you will not swim.

That lady ten times fairer than me

will never see you again,

she'll never see you again.'

'Fly down, fly down, you pretty little bird,

light upon my knee.'

'I know a girl who killed her own heart's love

might hurt a little bird like me.'

'If I had my arrow in my hand,

bow on a tuneful string;

I'd shoot a dart straight through your heart,

you'd no longer sing,

and you'd no longer sing!'

'Come in, come in, my love Henry,

stay with me this night.

And you shall have both candle and coal,

my fire burning bright,

my fire burning bright.'

I found your video and loved this song so much I decided to make an acoustic cover. Feel free to check it out. I hope you like it.

My dad was a helium salesman from Amarillo and supplied the small amount used for this recording. What a gas!

Thank you, Andrew Vachss, for hinting at Magic Judy Henske in your works!

I've never heard the original, but this sounds very lovely, a very nice speed and pitch. The super-rapid vibrato is pleasant, reminiscent of some Irish singing styles, which is appropriate enough for this song.

Something weird here. I have the original album (in both vinyl and cd) "Judy Henske" on which she sings Love Henry. I'm listening to it as I type this. And sure enough this post sounds speeded up. (Plus, where's the comedy intro?). I appreciate the posting, but am curious about it. FraeuleinSchneeweisz, are you sure it's from that album? Do you have any more information? Thanks.

Judy Henske is still recording and her new songs are just as good as the old ones.

Sure sounds a lot like Carolyn Hester, to me. And she used to record with Dylan, way, way back in the day.

the speed of the track is too fast. She's singing in a higher pitch than the album was recorded
