Composer Sir Edward Elgar (1857 - 1934)

Ivor Newton (Piano)

Rec. 1/9/1939

"Round & round the planets revolve round the Sun."

Our sun very slowly burns itself out - bleeds itself dry - to warm up the Earth; so do our parents, they warm up our lives. This video I make to thank our parents.

Many thanks to people whose pics I've used.

Many amazing pictures in this video were taken from this following link. Thanks so much to its owner - Dan Bush.

Josef, your legacy is this and other recordings. I know you were the best violinist I ever heard. God bless you in heaven!

@GA4N - I've been out of tune all my life. :)

and if YOU would be out of tune . . . ?

Wow I thought I going to be the only one to mention that out of tune note...OK at least I know I have pretty good ears ...still :) BUT like Beeffy said, it was another era - and as I recall, even copious wrong notes on the piano were thought of as unimportant as compared to technique and expressiveness.

The greatest talent of them all!!!! Another great loss at such a young age!

Josef Hassid and Michael Rabin are both REMARKABLE violinists !

Kreisler put it very correctly. He said, " A Heifetz is born once in a hundred years. A Hassid once in two hundred".

Magical. A unequalled spiccato for the ages! How much fun he seems to have had and, of course, so do we. R.I.P.

After listening to this piece, I think Hassid was probably one of the best violinists ever.

@KyotoMelody "Offering" is the gerund of the infinitive "to offer". Synonyms include "to give" and "to donate". Antonyms include "to receive" or "to deny". By the way, thank you sooooo much for introducing me to Josef Hassid. I'm incredibly grateful.

Violinclass

To: ItzhakRoxMySox: Not God, but phenomenal, yes. 1) J.H. was 16 when he recorded this, on one take 2) His tone is very personal, one can tell him apart from anyone else (if one has the set of ears to discern this sort of thing, of course) 3) Phrasing is as virtuosic as the technique=La Capricieuse answers to its name (rubato is fantastic) 4) Handling of all virtuosic elements comes from music 5) Not all recording vlnsts are incredible 6) Gitlis plays it as a study of tight-arm staccato

just cherish it. this is the only recording session of this little guy that i know of. such a sweet, tender sound. this recording stands alone in the evocation of that special lighthearted sense this piece contains. it's divine
