If anyone is interested the whole concert is available on DVD. There are some great edits - especially the one with a coyote in the snow.

On this audio version we can hear some backing vocals, I think it's Jaco singing. On the DVD version we don't hear it but we can see Jaco has a microphone :)

The little major-seventh riff Jaco plays right after the word "victory" is the heart and soul of this song...

masterpiece is a understatement when it comes to this.....

Just......INCREDIBLE......performance from Jaco.

Hallelujah! What a way to kick off the best concert ever. Jaco, Pat, Joni - the groove and musicianship is unparalleled, it's spiritual really. Thank you Joni.

I just love Jaco on this one. To be honest, this was the first time I heard him on a more "pop-ish" song and I must say I was blown away by how versatile he is and how lovely his bassline sounds. The high point for me is the first bars on Pat's solo. Guitar, keys and bass in perfect and beautifl harmony.Gorgeous!

The songwriters of that era had an ambition that , helas, we do not find it today, especially Joni and Stevie.

This song uses the 9th sus4 chord in many parts. Rolling rolling rock and rolling is a succession of 9th sus4s. For me it is the chord that defines the era harmonically. Joni, EWF, Stevie adds a 6th to the chord in many of his songs, Todd Rundgren made it a key element to his sound, like in Hello it is me or Can we still be friends, etc.

oh, no, i like wes! but you have to know that it is the producers/recording engineers who added the reverb to the recordings. if you find wes playing in a small venue, he uses a dry tone. but the producers/recording engineers understand that the listener wants a sense of space or spaciousness from the sound. actually a lot of guitar players use dry sound and depend on their soundguy. check out jeff beck live beatclub - same as studio 'rough and ready' but his tone is bone dry compare studioVER

Man, I have to call you out on that one...listen to Wes Montgomery's solo tunes, he has that jazz tone but dry it certainly ain't.

Proviamo a togliere la linea del basso di Jaco.. ne esce fuori una canzoncina di musica leggera davvero insignificante! Jaco, sei stato un genio solo nel concepire l'idea di suonare così!!!
