Never understood why JoJo didn't hold on to these "Modern Lovers" all gifted in the fine art of harmony singing. Maybe he thought they made his singing look bad? I have seen Jonathan perform twice: Once with drummer Tommy, a double-bassist, and an organist. The second time, it was just him alone. I have to say, the solo show was slightly better. Anyone else playing a guitar solo with no backing band would just look like an ass. With JR it worked. He would also set down his guitar and dance to the song as he sung it. I was there from soundcheck 'til closing time. In soundcheck, JoJo kept telling the sound man to *turn down* his microphone and the monitors. When they were about as low as possible, JoJo says, "I still hear too much" and the sound guy said "That's just the reverb." and Jonathan instantly said, "Oh! Turn that off." It was a good-sized pub and he really *didn't* need a microphone. Many times he would lean back while singing to give the vocals a different quality.
