Allerseelen

Agree with Fred Smith above. The song deserves a better understanding.

Lovely, lovely voice! However, this is a piece of German lied and the tempo chosen is just a bit too fast. Seems more like a tour de force rather than an actual artistic interpretation.

When I hear him I don't hear gutteral sounds. His voice sounds like caramel might be or velvet toned. I guess there is no doubt it is a beautiful instrument. The poem comes through with a connection to meaning in the poem. It seems like a valid interpretation to me. Emotional and personal. But I don't claim to be an expert. Why do you find fault with his interpretation exactly?

shocking to read the positive comments here! the tone is gutteral, line uneven, interpretation unsubtle. i suggest listeners use the facilities on utube... try this song with h.prey, or e.ameling to find out what it's about.

Charles Johnston's translation of Rosenegg's "Allerseelen" Set the fragrant mignonettes on the table Draw hither the last of the red asters And let us talk again of love As once in May Give me your hand, that I may press it in secret And if someone sees me, I do not care Only give me one of your sweet glances As once in May Today each grave is blooming and fragrant One day in the year is a holiday for the dead Come to my bosom, that I may grasp you again As once in May

It is such a pleasure to find a beautiful sensitive singing of German lied on Google. What luxury! Yonas and Helmut Deutsch are two rare artists. May they have a long, fulfilling lives!

Technically perfect... sentimentally... could be better according to the content he is singing1
