God, whos idea was it that just because she's not an soprano she's an alto; I know altos that would kill for the same quality she has in her low notes. Dot-Marie Jones is a female tenor. Tenors are usually male, but you do get female ones. I'd expect people to say something like 'I know a tenor and he can go a lot lower then her' - which is true, male tenors can go lower than female tenors, generally, but female tenors can go higher - this however doesn't make her an alto, she is still a tenor. Look up Tracy Chapman.
